Welcome to the southern tip of Africa. Here, two great oceans meet, warm weather lasts most of the year, and big game roams just beyond the city lights. This is where humanity began: our ancestors' traces are still evident in fossilised footprints.

South Africa is truly "the world in one country" with its incredibly diversity of cultures and people. In no other country will you have so many different languages spoken by the local population and see so much diversity in its people.

South Africa has so much to offer visitors and holiday makers that to list them would make an incredibly long list indeed. The large cities such as Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg and more have all that modern city life has to offer the discerning visitor.

Incredibly beautiful stretches of white sandy beaches along the coastline from east to west will delight all beach lovers. Game reserves and wildlife parks for all that want to go on safari and experience nature and wildlife will find a never-ending vista. The waters around the coast have abundant marine life that brings divers and anglers from around the world to come and experience what is on offer.

South Africa takes a lifetime to experience as there is simply so much to see, do and participate in. Take a luxury rail tour and discover the country, or come on a golfing holiday or stay at one of the many luxury resorts; the list simply goes on. The only way you will really understand is to visit the country and experience it for yourself.

Most of South Africa has elevations of over 914m (3,000 ft) and at least 40% of the surface is at an elevation of over 1,220m (4,000 ft). Parts of Johannesburg are 1,829m (6,000 ft) above sea level. Resembling an inverted saucer, the land rises steadily from west to east to the Drakensberg Mountains, the tallest of which is Mont-aux-Sources at 3,300m (10,823 ft).

The coastal belt in the west and south varies from 3 to 30 miles in width, is between 152m (500ft) to 182m (600ft) above sea level, and is very fertile, producing citrus fruits and grapes, particularly in the Western Cape. North of the coastal belt stretch, the Little and the Great Karoo, which are bounded by mountains, lie higher than the coastal belt, and are semi-arid to arid, merging into sandy wastes that ultimately join the Kalahari Desert.

The high grass prairie, or veld, of the Orange Free State and the Transvaal is famous for its mineral deposits,. From Drakensberg, the land falls towards the Indian Ocean in the rolling hills and valleys of Natal, which are covered with rich vegetation and, near the coast, subtropical plants, including sugarcane.
