These white shark cage diving expeditions are done from Mossel Bay on the world-renowned Garden Route. Mossel Bay is easily accessible from everywhere along the N2 Highway. It is a scenic 350 km drive from Cape Town to reach Mossel Bay and it is also close to a huge variety of well-known tourist attractions.

• Sunscreen SPF 30+, sunhat or cap
• Swimwear and towel if you are diving
• A warm jacket

• Motion sickness pills if you are prone to get seasick, make sure you take the night before your shark cage adventure and also 2 hours before we depart.

• You do not have to be a qualified diver to go on a Mossel Bay white shark cage diving expedition, but you must be able to swim.
• The shark cage is attached to the side of the boat at all times and the top of the cage is well above the level of the water. This means you can come up at any time to the surface. This type of cage is the industry standard for safety.
• We do not go into deep-sea; it is not necessary as Seal Island is about 10 minute [1 kilometer] from the shore.
• Is shark viewing guaranteed? White Sharks cannot be commanded to appear and during certain parts of the year they are more abundant than at other times. We have an average of 84% success rate per month for diving and viewing. We will inform you on the day of your shark cage diving as to what current sightings are like.
• You are completely safe inside the shark cage and sharks do not attack the cage. You do not look like food to sharks; they will come in close to have a look at you just as you are looking at them, but they do not attack the cage. The steel cage has a sport that allows you to take excellent photographs.
• Usually the duration of a trip is between 3 and 4 hours, but it can be longer than 5 hours; it all depends on the sharks plus some other variables.
• Diving is NOT a must; there is excellent topside viewing for those who do not want to dive. This adventure is not only about shark cage diving, but also about watching marine life from on board.
• To attract sharks we use shark bait; we use what the sharks would normally eat, i.e. all types of fishy products.
• We cater to a maximum of 18 persons at a time and we have a five man dive cage.
• Temperature and visibility; the water is between 15 and 22 degrees Celsius and visibility ranges from 4 to 15 meters.
• We adhere to the code of conduct stipulated by the Marine and Coastal Management controlling body. We maintain all safety standards and equipment including VHF 29 Mhz radio, GPS, depth finder, fish finder, life jackets and life rafts.

We do open-date gift vouchers for Mossel bay white shark cage diving that you can hand to the recipients as gifts on a special day. This allows the recipient the flexibility to make the final booking for the shark cage diving on a date that suits his/her personal schedule.    This also turns the gift into a “double whammy” gift as the recipient receives the voucher on the special day and then has the anticipation of going on the adventure on a suitable date.

On the Day

• We prefer everybody to meet at the office about an hour before we launch, so we can relax and have breakfast and listen to safety briefing and boat briefing.
• The trip to the diving site is only about 10 minutes as Mossel Bay has a protected bay that attracts the sharks. There will be a briefing on board about the shark cages and the diving.
• To attract white sharks we use bait and chum. These are completely natural marine products as we never use anything that can harm the sharks or the environment. With sharks there is never any guarantee and they may turn up within minutes or they can take their time and arrive hours later as they please.
• Once white sharks have arrived around the boat it it time for the cage to be lowered into the water so that diving can start. Topside viewers [non-divers] find the process just as exciting as the sharks come very close to the surface and there are many great photo opportunities with brilliant action shots.
• We take the utmost care that sharks do not bang into the cage or the boat as this will injure them and that is against everything we try to achieve.
• The trip normally lasts roughly 4 hours and we have snacks, drinks and a light lunch on board. Our staff is always eager to answer questions and will chat with guests at length.
• Once we return to harbor we have afternoon tea and each guest will be handed a certificate of the day.
