Whale watching is something that draws crowds of people, not only
locals but visitors to South Africa too. These majestic giants, once
hunted almost to extinction, are now a great source of celebration and
enjoyment for all along the South African coast. Whale watching is
simply one step on the journey to awareness and conservation and whale
watching kayak adventures are a step in the right direction for
sustainable eco-tourism. Set out on the sea with a knowledgeable and
experienced guide and take a kayak trip within the whale sanctuary at
Walker Bay. The whale sanctuary has an abundance of marine life to
experience and although we may not go nearer than 50 metres from any
whales, that is close up and personal when you are in a kayak.
What’s the deal?
A sea kayak trip within the whale sanctuary that allow you to encounter a wide variety of fasciinating marine life and experience whales up closer than most people ever do. You will be provided with all the necessary equipment and safety gear for the trip.
Where is it?
The sea kayak trip in the whale sanctuary adventure takes place in Walker Bay, Hermanus.
When is the best time to do it?
Kayaking can be enjoyed all year round and during whale season you get the extra pleasure of seeing whales [300 meters limit ], it is best to do so in peak whale season. Whale season runs from approximately June to December each year.
How long does it take?
This adventure takes approximately 2 hours to complete.
What to bring:
- T-shirt and shorts
- Sunscreen with a high SPF
- Sunhat/peak cap
- Sunglasses
- Windbreaker
- Towels and a change of clothing for after the adventure is over
What are the operating times?
The departure times may vary throughout the year and approximate times will be confirmed upon booking.
Guide times:
- May to October: 9am, 11:30am and 2pm
- November to April: 8am, 10:30am and 1pm
Please take note:
You do not need any experience as a kayaker to participate in this whale watching kayak adventure. Beginners are welcome.
We reserve the right to cancel the whale watching kayak adventure. Your safety is our top priority and the trip will not take place if the sea and weather conditions are unsafe.
We do open-date gift vouchers that you can hand to the recipients as gifts on a special day. This allows the recipient the flexibility to make the final booking on a date that suits his/her personal schedule. This also turns the gift into a “double whammy” gift as the recipient receives the voucher on the special day and then has the anticipation of going on the adventure on a suitable date.
Our open date vouchers are valid for a period of 6 months from date of issue; this is a precaution to guard against price increases only, the value of the voucher is never lost. Should the participant not use the voucher within that time period, the value is still there, and if there has been no price increases, the recipient uses the voucher as is. If after the six months grace period there has been a price increase, the recipient will be liable to pay in the price difference only.
