Itinerary:
The 21 day Southern
Sun overland and Camping holiday begins in Cape Town, South Africa, and ends in
Victoria Falls Zimbabwe.
Please Note:
The
Southern Sun overland holiday departs early on Sunday morning from Cape Town.
If you would like to do some sightseeing Cape Town before we depart, we suggest
that you arrive in the Mother City a few days earlier.
Pre Departure
Meeting: This meeting is held at the at 17h00 departure point on the day
before departure, i.e. on the Saturday afternoon.

Southern Sun overland holiday may vary from day to day, depending on road and weather
conditions as well as the political atmospheres in the relevant countries and
group decisions. Your safety is our number 1 priority.
In some of
the countries we travel through, the tourism Laws may require a change of truck
and crew during the 21 day overland holiday.

DAY 1: Cape Town to
Cederberg Area
Meals included: lunch and dinner
- Departing from Cape Town, we make our way north
through the country’s wine growing regions.
- Cross the Piketberg Pass into Citrusdal
- Make camp surrounded by wine farms for the first
night
- Spend the afternoon as you please, perhaps exploring
Cederberg Mountains
DAY 2: Cederberg Area
to Orange River
Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner
- Departing from the Cederberg we make our way north
through Namaqualand
- Stop for supplies in Springbok
- Continue to the Orange River through the Richtersveld
Make camp on the South African banks of the Orange River.
DAY 3: Orange River
to Fish River Canyon (Namibia)
Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner
- Optional
morning activity: half-day canoeing on the Orange River
- We cross into Namibia after lunch
- We arrive at the Fish River Canyon after a short
drive
Canyon Facts:
- 161 km long
- 27 km wide
- 550 m deep
- World’s second largest canyon
- Outer canyon was carved out by tectonic activity
- Inner canyon carved our by the erosion of the
Fish River
DAY 4: Fish River
Canyon to Sesriem
Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner
- We start our day early, making our way into the
Namib-Naukluft desert, one of the world’s oldest deserts
- Make Sesriem our base for the night
- Sossusvlei is nearby
DAY 5: Sesriem to
Solitaire
Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner
- Spend the morning exploring the Namib-Naukluft
Park
- Watch the sunrise from on top of Dune 45, it is
truly unforgettable
- Optional desert shuttle ride 5km further into
the desert, here you can take walk to Sossusvlei and explore the surroundings.
- Leave the park and depart for the small
settlement of Solitaire
DAY 6: Solitaire to
Swakopmund
Meals included: brunch
- We make our way north-west to Walvis Bay
- We follow the coast for around 35 km, arriving
Swakopmund where we woll overnight for the next 3 nights in dormitory
accommodation.
- Accommodation upgrades to private rooms are
possible but they are subject to availability.
DAYS 7 and 8:
Swakopmund

There will be an activity briefing upon our arrival in
Swakopmund
DAY 9: Swakopmund to
Spitzkoppe
Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner
- Depart from Swakopmund, making our way to Spitzkoppe,
the ‘Matterhorn of Namibia’. Here you are free to explore the area the San rock
paintings.
- Set up a bush camp for the night
DAY 10: Spitzkoppe to
Cheetah Park
Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner
Drive to the Cheetah Park where you have the opportunity to
meet and take photos with the cheetahs.
DAY 11: Cheetah Park
to the Etosha National Park
Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner
- Stop for supplies in Outjo
- Continue to the Etosha National Park
- Spend the rest of the day exploring the southern
area of the park
- Make camp only 10kms outside Anderson Gate
Park Facts:
- 20 000 km2
- Large variety of animal and bird life
- Extensive gravel road network offers access to
remote areas
DAY 12: Etosha
National Park
Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner
- Travel 150 km across the Etosha National Park and
enjoy game viewing along the way.
- Make camp in Namutoni, situated the north of the
park
DAY 13: Etosha
National Park to Divundu
Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner
- Depart from Etosha, making our way north-east towards
the Kavango region in northern Namibia
- Stop at Rundu for supplies
- Tonight’s campsite is situated on the banks of
the Kavango River
DAY 14: Divundu to
Maun (Botswana)
Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner
- We follow the Kavango River into Botswana
- Then we continue eastwards, still following the
course of the river, until we arrive at Maun
- We will use Maun as a base from which to explore
the Okavango Delta
DAY 15: Maun to Okavango
Delta
Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner
Today you have the chance to go on the optional 2 night and
3 day drive in and Mokoro excursion into the Delta:
Optional Excursion
Itinerary:
- Drive north from Maun to arrive at the mokoro
poler’s station
- Mokoros are traditional dug out canoes, local guides
‘pole’ them through the Delta’s
waterways.
- After finding a suitable campsite we go on an
afternoon game walk.
Those not exploring
the Delta:
Spend the day at the campsite as you like, relaxing or
taking a visit to the nearby crocodile farm.
DAY 16: Okavango Delta
Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner
Optional Excursion
Itinerary:
Spend the day experiencing the Okavango Delta:
- Swimming
- Game walks
- Mokoro trips
DAY 17: Okavango
Delta to Maun
Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner
Optional Excursion
Itinerary:
- Take the final opportunity of a game walk this
morning
- Pack up and head back to Maun arriving in the
early afternoon
- Optional Activity: scenic sunset flight over The
Delta
DAY 18: Maun to Chobe
National Park
Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner
- We head to Kasane where we will set up our next
camp on the banks of the Chobe River
- We enjoy a late afternoon boat cruise along the
river when we can spot hippo, elephant and various bird species while taking in
the sunset
DAY 19: Chobe
National Park
Meals included: breakfast, lunch and dinner
Optional morning
activity: Early morning game drive in CHobe National Park
Enjoy lunch at camp and spend the afternoon as you please
Optional Excursion:
Chobe National Park Sleep out
This excursion offers adventurous guests an overnight
experience inside Chobe national Park
DAY 20: Chobe
National Park to Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe)
Meals included: brunch
- Today we enter Zimbabwe and continue to Victoria
Falls
- Make camp on the town’s campsite which is
ideally centrally located
- Victoria
Falls is also know as Mosi-oa-Tunya. Translated this means ‘the Smoke that
Thunders’. The falls is 1 of the 7 natural world wonders, measuring 1700 m wide
and 100 m high.
- Spend
the afternoon relaxing and exploring at your leisure
