Ten-Day Package Itinerary
Day One
Arrival Durban International Airport followed by your transfer to Umkomaas where you will overnight in a Bed and Breakfast establishment.
Day Two
Dive 1: Aliwal Shoal Reef dive
Aliwal Shoal is a fossilized sand dune. It lies roughly 4km offshore from
Umkomaas, a small coastal town, on the South Coast of KwaZulu Natal. What is so
unique about the shoal is that it affords divers a rich experience of varied diving
activities on a single dive.
Divers are able to experience reef,
wreck and seasonal shark diving in the same area and at the same time. Aliwal
Shoal plays host to an abundance of marine life from Nudibranchs to Manta Rays,
including eels, dolphins, turtles and a large variety of fish species.
During the winter months, the Ragged Tooth Sharks gather on Aliwal Shoal Reef
to mate and during the year Humpback whales are also regularly spotted from the
dive boats.
Dive 2: Baited Tiger shark dive off Aliwal Shoal Reef
This is as exhilarating as it gets, we make use of a baiting technique that
closely mimics the Tiger Sharks' natural feeding habit, bringing them in really
close. Remember that this is not a cage dive, all the more of an adrenalin rush
and that the Tiger Shark is not the only predator in the water. There is a
possibility of other sharks coming in for a bite to eat and there are often
plenty of Black Tip Sharks around to get in on the action.
After the dives we return to your Bed & Breakfast Accommodation in
Umkomaas
Day Three
Dive 1: Aliwal Shoal Reef Wreck Dive
When wreck diving on Aliwal Shoal Reef there are 2 wrecks to dive, either the
Nebo or the Produce.
'THE NEBO'
The Nebo lies at a depth of 26m at the bottom. She is a 2000 ton steamship that
sank on the May 24th 1884, tragically on her maiden voyage, just north of the
Aliwal Shoal Reef. She was carrying of a cargo of railway material, which has
now become home to a variety of fish. No lives were lost when she went down.
'THE NEBO' offers the best diving out of the rainy season.
'THE PRODUCE'
The Produce lies at a depth of 30m at the bottom. She was a Norwegian bulk
carrier that struck Aliwal Shoal Reef on August 11th 1974 and sank. Again, no
lives were lost when this beauty went down.
Her rusted framework provides a quaint home for a variety of fish species, and
excellent diving. The shy Brindle Bass is a huge attraction and an awesome
underwater sight you simply have to see.
Dive 2: Aliwal Shoal Reef Dive
After the day's events it is time to turn in, you will overnight in Umkomaas in
a Bed and Breakfast establishment.

Shark, or the Zambezi Shark as it is also known, makes Protea Banks its home
during the summer months while literally hundreds of hammerheads can often be
seen overhead. Copper Sharks, Guitar Sharks and Black Tip Reef Sharks frequent
the Protea Banks Reef while the shy Tiger Sharks can be seen on occasion if you
are lucky. During the winter mo the Ragged Tooth Sharks move in on the reef to
mate.
