Savannah Southern Safaris conducts their various walking safaris, nature walks and other tours in the African country of Zambia. Specific places for tours include the town of Livingstone, Victoria Falls and the Mosi-O-Tunya Park.
When is the best time to do it?
Savannah Southern Safaris offers their various tours throughout the year. Please enquire about further information about the best time to enjoy specific tours. Please note that if you would like to make the most of birding tours on offer, migratory birds take up residence in the park where tours take place annually from November to February.
We do open-date gift vouchers that you can hand to the
recipients as gifts on a special day. This allows the recipient the flexibility
to make the final booking on a date that suits his/her personal schedule. This
also turns the gift into a “double whammy” gift as the recipient receives the
voucher on the special day and then has the anticipation of going on the
adventure on a suitable date.
Our open date vouchers are valid for a period of 6 months from date of issue;
this is a precaution to guard against price increases only, the value of the
voucher is never lost. Should the participant not use the voucher within that
time period, the value is still there, and if there has been no price
increases, the recipient uses the voucher as is. If after the six months grace
period there has been a price increase, the recipient will be liable to pay in
the price difference only.

Nature Walks:
Savannah Southern Safaris prides itself on offering the discerning client variety of nature experiences options that range from birding and exclusive rhino walks to general walking safaris and game drives. We also offer tours of Victoria Falls, villages and Towns.
Walking Safari:
Walking safaris take you on a unique safari experience in Zambia’s wilderness areas. The walking safaris are accompanies by experienced and knowledgeable guides.
Our guides will point out and show you the indigenous flora and fauna of our country, relating interesting facts and trivia as you go along.
Some of the indigenous wildlife that you may encounter and spot include:

- Zebra
- Wildebeest
- Warthog
- Primates
- Antelopes
- Elephant
Just as amazing as the flora and fauna on land is the water-based life found in and on the mighty Zambezi River. The Zambezi River is also known Kazamba Besi in the native tongue.
Departure Time: Walking safaris usually depart around 6:00AM in the morning.
Tour Duration: Savannah Southern Safaris walking safaris usually last for a minimum of 3hrs.
Other: Afternoon walking safari tours are possible between 14:30 and 17:30.
Birding Tours:
At least 450 animals and possible more species of bird call the Mosi-O-Tunya Park home. Migratory bird species make the park their home for part of the year, arriving in November and departing again around February.
Most of the bird species in the park may be viewed all year round. Savannah Southern Safaris provides avid birders with exclusive tours of the park and the surrounding areas. These areas are home to some more interesting bird species such as the Miombo Pied Barbet, African Finfoot and the Taita Falcon which is on the brink of extinction.
A little way out of town you are likely to spot ‘black checked love birds’ which are Africa’s most localised parrots.
Departure Time: The saying that the early bird catches the worm is apt as the Savannah Southern Safaris birding tours start as early as 6:30AM in the mornings.
Tour Duration: Our birding tours last between 3 – 4 hours.
Other: Afternoon birding tours are possible from 14:30PM, lasting a total of 3 hours.
For adventurous birders Savannah Southern Safaris offers birding tours to view the endemic Chaplin’s Barbet. This species is found around 300km out of town and is well worth the travel.
Rhino Walks:
If you have been on safari, chances are that you have seen most of Africa’s Big 5 but have you set eyes on the white rhino? If not, you are in luck because Savannah Southern Safaris offers clients the opportunity to take a closer look at this magnificent animal. The white rhino is the second largest mammal in Africa and is an impressive sight to behold.
The Mosi-O-Tunya Park is home to 7 white rhinos of which 2 are male and 3 are female with 2 young rhinos in tow.
Departure Time: Our rhino walks depart at around 7:00AM in the morning or alternatively at 15:00PM in the afternoon.
Falls Tours:
Victoria Falls is one of the 7 natural Wonder of the World and the giant curtain of water is truly magical and unforgettable to experience. The Falls are known as Shungu Namutitima in the native tongue.
Enjoy tours of the Falls accompanied by our experienced and knowledgeable guides who will offer you interesting facts and trivia along the way. They also make your entire experience of Victoria Falls easy and comfortable by arranging your entry and transfers.
Departure Time: Our memorable Victoria Falls tours depart daily anytime between 08:00AM in the morning and 16:00PM in the afternoon.
Lunar Rainbow tours:
Savannah Southern Safaris offers clients the unique experience of Lunar Rainbow tours, only available during full moon.
Lunar Rainbow tours start at around 17:00PM in the afternoon as we watch the sun set gloriously, a molten ball of fire in the west. Once the sun is out of sight we welcome the silver rays of the moon as it rises in the east to make it’s journey across the African night skies.
Town Tours:
Nestled in southern Zambia is the ever growing tourist town of Livingstone. Enjoy tours of the town as our guides, who always have their fingers on the pulse of the town, show you its unique rhythm. We will show you where to go to enjoy the best of Livingstone culture, cuisine, social life and more. Experience the history of the town through the unique architecture and historical sights that form part of the nations colourful heritage.
Our experienced and knowledgeable guides will walk you around town, to points and sights of interest and to meet and interact with locals.
You can also experience the excitement of Livingstone’s night life, exploring night clubs and restaurants that cater to your social style.
Town tours, unlike village tours, are available for booking at any time. Unfortunately village tours are only available for booking for a limited time.
Village Tours:
This is your chance to experience a typical African village in Zambia. Our guides will take you on an unforgettable tour during which you will meet the head of the village, see the school and interact with local villagers. The village locals are more than happy to share their way of life with you, offering you a unique insight to their culture and daily comings and goings.
Museum Tours:
Livingstone’s Museum is 1 of Zambia’s most interesting Museums and it is well worth a visit whether you are a weathered history boffin or not. Here you can learn about Zambian art, culture and history. There is also a railway museum which our guides will be more than happy to show you.

These walks are offered throughout the year at US$ 60 per person. Package includes; transfer from lodging place to the park, park entry fees, light snacks and drinks & scout escorts.
Birding Trips
Birding trips US$ 60 half day per person. Package includes; transfer from lodging place to the park, park entry fees, light snacks and drinks & scout escorts.
Birding trips 80 US$ full day per person. Package includes; transfer from lodging place to the park, light snacks and drinks (scout escorts & park entry feeds where needed) .
Organised trips outside Livingstone to nearby birding areas for endemic species are US$ 150 pp. Included: Transfer and Guiding Services. Accommodation can be arranged separately and in most cases does not exceed US$ 100 per person per day.
