The Race Day in detail
Extensive driver and safety briefing
The race day program is designed specifically with safety as its top priority due to the high speeds that are driven. In fact the focus on safely will ensure that your racing adventure is even more thrilling.
Introduction to the racing cars
Drivers must be thoroughly familiarized with the controls of the race cars as these are very different to what is found in road cars.
Sighting laps
Sighting laps are needed so that drivers can get used to the feel of the track and it also acts as a training session so that corner exits, racing lines, turn-in points, apexes and brake points can be explained.
Getting kitted up
To enhance your overall experience you must not only be safe, but also comfortable. Each driver will be supplied with race overalls, balaclava, gloves, helmet and racing boots on race day.
Seat fitting
This is a thrilling moment for all drivers as it is the first time they actually sit inside a world-class single seater racing car. No two persons are the exact same size and therefore each driver must be fitted into the cars to ensure complete comfort and safety. Please take note that there is a weight and height restriction: 6 4 [1.95m] in height and 22 stone [140 kg] in weight.
Racing
Racing is fast-paced and intensive and it is essential that drivers handle the race cars with confidence. This is why we allow drivers to gradually build up this needed confidence by doing warm up laps following a pace car. This ensures that when it comes to the actual racing laps, the experience is everything hoped for.
Once the driver is ready and up to speed it is time for those four 15 minute sessions. In between sessions drivers will rest, rehydrate and examine their performance and learn from it.
The Cars
The cars are authentic and built by Reynard and the cars are fully race configured with a V6 Dodge engine and can pull 450 BHP/per ton. All the cars have carbon fiber chassis and have been built to comply with all FIA safety standards, meaning they have their safety standards are similar to those found on F1 cars. Most definitely not your average road driving car!
The Race Tracks
At present Adventure Bookings holds these exciting racing events at four different tracks; three in Johannesburg and one here in Cape Town.
Cape Town Killarney
Adventure Bookings is based at Killarney in Cape Town.
Additional useful information
Weather
Safety at all events is not negotiable and the weather can play a negative influence as it affects the race cars. If the conditions are considered unsafe, the event may be cancelled. Thus when bookings are made, Adventure Bookings will consider the potential conditions and the weather forecasted for the days of the event so as to minimize the possibility of an event being cancelled.
Cape Town
Winters in Cape Town are wet and as such we recommend that novices in single-seater cars only race in summer. We will gladly discuss the various options with any international clients, but as a general rule we advise international guests to come from mid-September to mid-May.
Safety at the track
We at Adventure Bookings cannot stress safety enough. Every attendee must attend driver and safety briefings before the event and we have medically trained marshals at the track as well as an ambulance as a precaution. Nothing is left to chance and this ensures that your racing car adventure is the safest and the most thrilling in the world.
