When anyone thinks about South Africa, one of the very first things to come to mind is a safari. Game viewing, the Big Five and the African bushveld or savannah are synonymous with a visit to South Africa. However, when you go on holiday, you want to indulge in some of your favourite pastimes and for gold lovers that means hitting the green. We have come up with an inventive way to offer avid golfers the ultimate South African experience, a luxury rail golf safari tour. Five star luxury, glimpses of the Big Five and some of the best golf our country has to offer, what could be better?

On this awesome adventure, you will travel by luxury train, waking up in a new destination each day of your holiday. New daily activities and adventures await you at each new stop, including new golf courses to master, game viewing and sightseeing. This experience is a must of avid golfers and the good news is that you can bring your family along because there is a lot to see and do for non-golfers too.

This luxury rail golf safari adventure is undertaken 3 times per year. The specially worked out non-golfing itinerary ensures that everyone will enjoy the trip from Pretoria, into Swaziland and then back into South Africa as you travel to Durban before heading back home to Pretoria.

Itinerary Overview: Enjoy fine dining, 5-star luxury accommodation and a classy yet relaxed atmosphere as you travel across South Africa by rail. The train has 36 en-suite rooms which can accommodation up to 72 passengers in total.

Itinerary for Avid Golfers

Day 1:

Departure is from Pretoria’s Capital Park rail station and your destination is Waterval Onder

Day 2:

Enjoy golf at the Hans Merensky Golf Estate, departing thereafter on the train, heading to Swaziland

Day 3:

Enjoy a round of golf at the Royal Swazi Club, situated near Manzini

Day 4:

Take a game drive in the Hluhluwe Game Reserve, departing for Durban afterwards

Day 5:

Play 18 holes at the Durban Beachwood Country Club

Day 6:

Enjoy golf at the Champagne Sports Resort, located in the Drakensberg

Day 7:

Enjoy a day of leisure on board the train as we depart from Ladysmith

Day 8:

PLay golf at the Gary Player CC/Lost City in Sun City.
Have lunch at Club.
Go on a game drive in Pilansberg Game Reserve

Day 9:

Today you end your luxury rail golf safari tour, arriving back in Pretoria at the Capital Park Station

Itinerary for Non-Golfers:

Day 1:

Depart from the Rovos Rail private station at Capital Park in Pretoria, arriving at Waterval Onder later

Day 2

Enjoy a Game drive in the Kruger National Park, lunch after than and depart during the late afternoon for Swaziland

Day 3

Visit the Ngwenya Glass Factory in the morning, have lunch at Malandelas and round the afternoon off with a game viewing drive in the Mkhaya Game Reserve

Day 4

Go on a game drive in the Hluhluwe Game Reserve, departing for Durban thereafter

Day 5

Take a tour of Durban city and have lunch at the Durban Beachwood Country Club

Day 6

Take a morning walk in the Champagne Sports Resort, followed by a professional tour of Battlefields. You may shop to your heart’s content after the tours before you rejoin the rest of the train guests

Day 7

Enjoy a day of leisure on board the train after we depart for Ladysmith

Day 8

Enjoy, explore and experience Sun City. Have a sumptuous lunch at the Club followed by an afternoon game drive in the beautiful Pilansberg Game Reserve

Day 9

Your 9-day luxury rail tour of South Africa ends with our arrival back in Pretoria today at Capital Park station
