Botswana

Botswana: "a land of diverse beauties"

Botswana, a land of diverse beauties, is ideally located in the heart of southern Africa. Botswana has enjoyed remarkable economic growth since independence. From being one of the poorest countries, Botswana has emerged as one the fastest growing economies.

Botswana is a country of great diversity and beauty and has something to offer everyone and with over 40% of the country set aside as national parks and game reserves, you are assured of a rich wildlife experience if you come on a safari holiday.

Botswana is landlocked between South Africa, Zambia, Namibia and Zimbabwe and the population is diverse with several ethnic groups with the main languages spoken being English and Setswana. One thing that stands out about this country is the stability of its government and the way the people all work together for the greater good of all. This makes Botswana a perfect place for a holiday.

Botswana is easily accessible by air and road and travelling through the countryside is a pleasure as the scenery forms a big part of the natural attractions of this country. With over 40% of the land being game reserves, safari holidays are top of the list for visitors, but there are other attractions as well.  The Okavango Delta with its waterways and seasonal lagoons offer many things of interest. The Chobe River is great for fishing and mountain biking adventures are popular too. Or you can float in a hot air balloon across the desert for a birds eye view.

The people are friendly, the food good and the accommodation excellent; making Botswana a great holiday destination.

Hunting and gathering is practised by all tribesmen but is guided by very strict traditional conservation strategies. This cultural heritage has enabled Botswana to preserve vast and diverse species of wildlife and natural resources. At least 17% of Botswana is reserved as parks, which facilitates the protection of the fragile natural environment. Tourism accounts for about 40% of the employment opportunities in Botswana. Among the major tourist attractions are the Okavango Delta, said to be the largest inland delta in the world; Chobe National Park, home of the largest elephant population in the world; the golden sands of the vast Kalahari Desert; the Tuli Block with its rugged terrain and the Moremi Game Reserve.

The seasons in Botswana are somewhat irregular. Rains generally start in October or November, and can persist until March or April. There may be long dry spells within that time. Rain tends to fall in short, often violent thundershowers, and generally the greatest amount falls in December, January and February. The best time to visit Botswana is April to October when the days are sunny and not too hot. Evening temperatures drop sharply. During the summer months temperatures can rise to over 40ºC and usually drop to around 25ºC at the night.
