South Africa has a fantastic coastline to explore and experience and there is no better way to do so than in a hands-on way; in a kayak of course. A kayak gets you down to earth or in this case down to sea, and in touch with reality. You get to experience the South African coast line at Walker Bay, Hermanus and its abundance of marine life up close and personally in a way that no boat can allow you to. After all, in the middle of the majesty that is the sea, the coast and the marine life, you can simply pause to take it all in and reach out to touch the waves, something that is not possible on a luxury yacht.
Whale watching is something that captivates people where once whales were hunted unscrupulously for commercial industry. Today it is whale watching that helps raise awareness about these amazing creatures of the deep that share this planet with us. What better way to get up close to them than in a kayak. Boats can only get you so close, but a kayak breaks down the barriers between man and whale, bringing you closer together than ever before in a soul stirring experience that you will never forget.
Throughout the entire experience you will be in the company of an experienced and knowledgeable guide. The kayaks used come from France; they are self-bailing, plastic, sit on top sea kayaks. This means that anyone can hop aboard and stay aboard even if you have never kayaked before. Before hopping aboard you will be briefed on safety and kayaking techniques. From there its paddling from the old historical harbour for a round trip, the direction depends on the direction of the wind and swells.
Peak whale season is from June to December, when Hermanus celebrates its traditional Whale Festival and whale watchers from all over stream in to get in on the action. This is also the best time to opt for a kayaking whale watching adventure in Walker Bay because whale populations are at their most abundant.

- May to October: 9h00, 11h30 and 14h00
