What we offer:
- We offer whale watching boat trips that also include viewing other marine life.
- Most of the boat trips are led personally by Lloyd Edwards, who is a wildlife educator, conservationist and marine safari specialist.
- Two catamarans that both have specially designed viewing platforms that allow the guide to immediately spot any marine life in the bay and thus enhance the whale watching experience of all on board.
- St Croix Island group stop; we stop just off the islands for refreshments and the opportunity to view the largest African Penguin breeding colony in the world. There is also great pelagic bird watching opportunities here and a high chance of seeing the Bryde's whales that are present in the bay all year round as this is their feeding ground.
Best Times:
- Bryde's Whales - all year round as they are resident in the bay.
- Humpback Whales - from June to August as they pass to their breeding ground and again from October to the first week in January when they return with their calves.
- Southern Right Whales arrive during July in the bay to mate and calf and leave at the end of October.
What to expect:
- Everyone meets up at the Algoa Bay Yacht Club at 08:15 for departure time at 08:30 with return time of 11:30 to 12:00.
- Snacks and light refreshments are served during the boat cruise and there is also the option of having lunch at the yacht club on our return.
- We start the boat cruise off with a tour of the harbor during which time a safety briefing will be given.
- We exit the port and set course for the islands and our whale watching boat trip can include dolphins, different whales and a huge variety of pelagic birds.
- Whale watching adventures last roughly 3 hours.
What to bring:
- Sun protection: sunglasses, sunhat and sunscreen SPF 30+
