For a tandem jump, your full-body harness is attached to that of your instructor, or tandem master. You exit the airplane at the same time, enjoying a 40-second, 120mph free fall before the rip cord is pulled and the parachute is opened.
Specifically designed couples parachutes are used for tandem skydiving adventures. You can assist your tandem master in guiding the parachute to the demarcated landing area.
There is a drogue parachute attached to the tandem parachute; this drogue parachute will deploy directly after you and your tandem master had exited the airplane. This is in order to slow your fall down to that of roughly the speed of a solo skydiver and prevent you from falling too fast.
The specially made tandem parachute is also far larger than the parachutes used for solo skydiving jumps. This is necessary to safely accommodate the combined weight of you and your tandem master.
The training you need and will receive will be done at the drop zone and should not take more than about 5 minutes.
Please Note:
- In order to participate in a tandem skydive you must be over the age of 16 years and if you are under 21 you need parental consent.
- For safety reasons you should not weigh more than 100kg if you want to take part in a tandem skydive.
- If you suffer from any physical injuries or problems, particularly back injuries or problems, have a medical condition or take medication please consult your doctor before booking. If your doctor approves of your skydiving plan, please inform us and your skydiving instructor too.
The school in Johannesburg is fully equipped to train a complete novice to do a first parachute jump. Courses follow the Parachute Association of South Africa (PASA) curriculum and adhere strictly to the PASA Safety and Training Standards. All instructors are PASA Qualified. The school offers accelerated freefall courses, static line courses and tandem jumps.
