Detailed Itinerary
This is a day by day breakdown of where you will go, where you will be staying and what to expect of each day on this overland adventure.
Day 1, Johannesburg to Hazyview
The adventure kicks off in Johannesburg from where the departure will be early in the morning. From Johannesburg the trip takes us to the outer boundaries of the Kruger National Park, world-famous for the Big 5.
Day 2, Kruger National Park
This is a full day of games drives and wildlife spotting with a stop for a lunch break and weather permitting, a swim.
Day 3, Hazyview to Graskop (via Blyde River Canyon)
First we stock up on supplies and then we head off to Graskop until we reach the Blyde River Canyon where we set up camp. The area is perfect for taking stunning pictures. Time to relax and enjoy the sun and swimming pool. The tour group has the option of exploring and enjoying the small towns nightlife after sundown.
Day 4, Graskop to Musina
Today we start out on our travel to Zimbabwe and the day is spent relaxing and just soaking up the scenery as we travel until we reach Messina for our overnight stop. Here we set up camp for our last night within the South African borders.
Day 5, Musina to Masvingo
Early departure for the border crossing into Zimbabwe and once all customs formalities are done with, we travel to Masvingo and the Great Zimbabwe Ruins that are of great historical value. Everyone is free to explore the ruins at a leisurely pace.
Day 6, Masvingo to Gweru
Our journty today takes us to Gweru and our destination is the Antelope Park. He park has a great variety of wildlife that include zebra, elephant and giraffe. One of the highlights on our adventure is the Walking with the Lions experience in the park. The Antelope Park offers visitors a great choice of many exciting activities.
Day 7, Gweru
This is a day of leisure for everyone and you have free choice of how you want to spend your time and for the brave there is even the opportunity to swim with elephants if the weather is warm enough.
Day 8, Gweru to Bulawayo
Today we head towards Bulawayo, which is the 2nd largest city of Zimbabwe and the drive is along a very scenic route. Bulawayo has a very relaxed atmosphere and unusual broad streets as it was built in the times when roads had to be wide enough so that a full span of oxen could be turned around in it. Today many of the British colonial building have been preserved and are classified as heritage sites, so this city is not short of interesting places for visitors.
Day 9, Bulawayo
Today the Matobo National Park is on our agenda to see the famed lack eagles, rhino and leopards. There is much to explore in this ancient area with caves and rock paintings.
Day 10, Bulawayo to Victoria Falls
Today we turn the trucks north towards one of the seven natural wonders of the world and a the perfect highlight on which to end this overland adventure tour; Victoria Falls. The Falls have fascinated generations of visitors and it is easy to see why. The local name for the Falls is Mosi-ao-Tunya, which means the Smoke that Thunders and the 100 meter high and 1700 meter wide falls are truly thundering water smoke.
Day 11, Victoria Falls
This is the final day of your overland adventure tour and you can spend it relaxing or you can chase a few adrenaline rushes. You can bungee jump from the Zambezi Bridge, go white water rafting or take a flight over Batoka Gorge, the Falls and the islands above the Falls.
There is a huge variety of optional activities such as golf, horse riding, parachuting, several cruises and a visit to the crocodile ranch and snake park. It is suggested that you give yourself a few days at the Victoria Falls to unwind after your 11-day overland adventure between Johannesburg and the Vic Falls.
