Itinerary
Day 1
You arrive at Windhoek International airport where you will be met by your host and transfer to a comfortable B & B. The rest of the day is spent touring around Windhoek and taking in the sights.
Day 2
We depart Windhoek early and set out for the base camp in Damaraland where we will meet the horses and crew that will be our companions on the exciting adventure across the plains of Namibia to the infamous Skeleton Coast.
On the way to base camp we stop off for a picnic lunch at the remains of the Petrified Forest.
Day 3
Trail ride after breakfast and the afternoon is spent viewing the rock engravings at Twylefontein, sightseeing and walking to enjoy the views of Damaraland.
Day 4
From Aba Huab set off across the endless plains, rendezvous for lunch and continue riding along the Huab River to De Riet, keeping a sharp lookout for the desert elephants.
Day 5
Trail continues along the Huab River onwards to Mikberg with a stop for lunch at the cheetah tree. The aim today is to reach View Point where we will pitch camp near Brandbeg and the Doros Crater.
Day 6
From View Point we turn southwest towards the Ugab River, stop for lunch at Lion Head and then start out for the Rhino Trackers Camp near Brandberg West. We pass through a narrow gorge and Soutfontein on the way. We meet up with our support trucks and trailers at the Rhino Trackers Camp.
The trucks have a harrowing drive from Abu Huab via Uis and it takes nerves of steel and extraordinary skill for the experienced drivers to get the vehicles through and these men deserve the greatest respect of each person on this horse riding safari.
Day 7
The routes change according to weather conditions and where the lions are but usually the horse riding safari moves from the Ugab River and across the wide open plains as we ride along the Ugab to Brakwasser. From here we turn southeast away form the river and we will pitch camp at a previously location, depending on the route we took.
Day 8
Our trail takes us away form the Ugab and across vast open plains in sight of the Brandberg and the ancient Doros Crater. The landscape is spectacular and makes an impression on all. Lunch is at Klippenbergs where most of the horse riding safari members like to pick up a few special gemstones as souvenirs. Our destination for the day is the camp at Cross Roads.
Day 9
Today we will be on horseback for half the day only and the mornings ride takes us towards the Messum River. The afternoon we take a drive to the Messum River to sightsee.
Day 10
We head straight towards the Atlantic Ocean where our goal is the camp at Mile 108, right on the beach. This is horse riding safari at its most basic with the sound of crashing waves around you and only our support trucks and a simple wind shelter.
The weather of the Skeleton Coast is fickle and we never know what conditions will be like. It can be warm enough to swim or you can have a sandstorm or it might be cold and foggy. The uncertainty is all part of the excitement of this horse riding adventure.
Day 11
Today we say goodbye to the horses and crew that have been our companions through this extraordinary horseback safari. First though we have an early morning ride along the beach.
From here we transfer back to Windhoek by road, but stop off to a Game Lodge on the route to bring us back to reality and the world we left behind a week ago.
Day 12
Today our horse riding safari officially ends and you spend the time at the Lodge at leisure swimming, relaxing on pool chairs, viewing the wildlife or taking nature walks. You transfer to the airport at a time that will be in line with your departure flight.
