A four day luxury slackpacking trail based in the beautiful Eastern Cape Highlands – The Wild Side of the Drakensberg. Hike through the spectacular mountains that reach an altitude of 2700m. Home to the Lammergeier (Bearded Vulture), Black Eagle, alpine wildflowers and various small wildlife, this hike leaves you with breath-taking memories. Overnight at tranquil Guest Farms along the way where your hosts will spoil you with home-cooked meals. Take with you only day packs while your backpacks are transported to your next destination. Experience true Eastern Cape hospitality and the natural splendour of the Eastern Cape Drakensberg.

What is the deal?
•   4 day luxury slackpacking trail in the Eastern Cape Drakensberg
•   Beautiful scenery includes mountain peaks, river gorges, waterfalls, sandstone formations and caves
•   Overnight accommodation in charming Guest Farm B&Bs
•   Hikes are tailored to the groups needs
•   Hikes are unmarked and therefore guides are provided.
•   Fully catered – Farmhouse breakfast, lunchpacks and 3-course dinner provided

Where is it?
•   Wartrail District between Barkly East & Rhodes, Eastern Cape

What will we do?
•   Day 1: Arrival at Rosstrevor Guest Farm. Dinner and briefing.
•   Day 2: Easier hike along river gorge to Pitlochirie farm. Overnight Pitlochrie
•   Day 3: Full day guided mountain hike from Pitlochrie to Balloch. Overnight Balloch.
•   Day 4: Hike from Balloch to Reedsdell via ‘The Wall’. Overnight Reedsdell
•   Day 5: Hike through Edgehill valley from Reedsdell to Bidstone. Overnight Bidstone.
•   Day 6: Breakfast before departure and transportation back to Rosstrevor

When is the best time to do it?
•   Set departure dates for 2009/2010 summer season are:

16th August 2009
13th September 2009
11th October 2009
15th November 2009
6th December 2009
24th January 2010
21st February 2010

For larger groups (6-8) we can arrange a private trail any time between mid-August and end of May.

What do we need to bring?
•   Outdoor clothing, cameras, daybag.

Any Limitations?
•   Minimum group 4 persons (but we may be able to make up larger group)
•   Maximum group 8 persons
•   Aged 14 to 70 years
•   Booking essential

What is provided?
•   Farmhouse breakfast, packed lunch and 3 course dinner
•   Comfortable farmstay accommodation (approx 3*)
•   Guiding and landowner fees
•   Transportation of luggage between overnight stops
